The Satyagraha

Bravo Anna Hazare. You finally made Indians realise that corruption actually exists in our country. Unfortunately sir, your victory is a very hollow one. It was more of a victory of media – who once again demonstrated they can make any body a hero or a villain in our society.
Still it was nice to see somebody going back to approach our society and nation is so proud of – “Satyagraha”. I was tired of seeing people sitting on rail tracks while enjoying sumptuous meals. And it was also heartning to see hundreds of Indians (out of a billion and counting total) come out in support. Although to be honest many people there were just trying to be on TV, or thought it was a picnic going on there and were curious onlookers. Urban elite (like me) preferred our facebook approach – make a statement online and you have done your bit for nation. Next time there is a war, I will make sure to spam a forum of our enemy country and I would be a patriot.
In my point of view – the events that just finished presented three very important aspect about our nation and society.
a) With their backing, you can get concessions that please you. Next time I need a raise, I will take correspondents with me to threaten my managers.
b) If you media doesn’t notice you, you can be sitting on hunger strike for years (just google “Irom Chanu Sharmila” and you will find out. BTW all this lady is demanding is even army men be prosecuted if they kill an Indian citizen, which as per my understanding should be a right for any Indian citizen) and no body would be giving a damn.
c) A genuine approach to stamp out a social issue just involves creation of yet another law. And we all know how law abiding us all are and how sincerely our police and judiciary enforces it.
And just by watching how Bhushans CD case is stone-rolling, I can understand where all this is headed. Anyway, it was a good show while it was.
