The special day
Oct 12th, 2007 by Virendra
So how do you prepare for your first marriage anniversary? Ever given thought to this? Actually I never did, until the day was just a week away. Then came the “sink-in” part. Mom started reminding me not to forget it. Poor Mom, trying hard so that her bahu doesn’t experience what she has to undergo. *sniff* …
I was wondering – what is so special about it? This date is bound to come for many years in future. But since everybody is so excited, it must be really important. I thought what could be done, what could be purchased, and this went on until the day actually arrived.
My boss allowed me to leave early (at 6PM) for my special occasion. He even wished me congrats. Others were not so diplomatic. One senior said – Don’t worry, if you have managed it for one year, you can manage it for one life. And then he started talking about his own life. To get rid of him, I asked one of my female colleagues for ideas on what to buy for my wife. The very next moment I regretted it. She suggested – Tanishq, Asmi, DeBeers and such names that scared my purse to death. Then she began with her own story about how her husband hasn’t gifted her any jewellery lately. And you know it is not easy to get rid of a lamenting woman.
Then somebody suggested – Take her to Radisson hotel in a limo. She will remember the day forever. But I don’t want her to remember something like that or her expactations might rise in the coming years. How about a candle-lit dinner? An idea older than BigB himself. Weekend trip to Manali? Yeah, so that we both can freeze to our respective deaths.
Finally I came home empty handed – without even an idea what to do. But my wife is an angel, she didn’t complain. And I even received a fundoo wrist-watch as a gift. And she cooked a wonderful dinner for me.
I am waiting for the next anniversary more eagerly than her. Guess it is special afterall.
