Movie and me
May 29th, 2007 by Virendra
I tried to watch a Hindi movie recently. I say “tried” because that’s what I did. I do not hate Indian movies, some of my all time favourites are in vernacular languages. But mostly all we see are stolen plots acted upon by yesteryear heroes’/heroines’ sons and daughters, directed by yesteryears’ directors.
So wife and I decided to watch Namastey London. Many of our friends told us it was a really funny movie. Movie had Katrina in it and so I had no qualms against watching it. If Katrina is there I expect something GEWD (good).
Movie began and immediately went into flashback mode. Then it continued with how all white people are so evil and marry only for the flesh and how Indians are soooooooo gooooood and soooooo cariiiiing and soooooo onnnnnnn. I really do not know if this is true. Indians are willing to sell everything they have just to go abroad, many girls here learn English so that when they grow up and marry the cute NRI and settle in Amreeka they face no language issues, Indian society is the only one with provision for dowry and UK have a separate police department dedicated to dealing with complaints of harassment raised by Indian women married to British NRIs. So much for evil white guys. Well, after twenty minutes had passed, wife noticed me and my yaaaaaawning mouth and decided to let me off hook. “You go, I will take it up from here”, were the golden words and I shot out of room to … well any other place.
Surprisingly I found her out of the room as well in another twenty minutes. She said “I was feeling bored watching it alone. I will finish it off tomorrow.”
That tomorrow is yet to come.
